The South Park Newspaper Doesn't Love #1 Son

We are pretty used to seeing his name in the paper these days.

He's winning tournaments right and left.

This is his senior year and the golf season is almost over.

His score in the Regionals was the lowest in 5 years.

The team made it to the State Championships.

There isn't one word about the tournament in the paper.

Not one word.......

I need to figure out a way to get paid for doing the laundry, cooking, washing dishes, cleaning the house, going to the library, raising good kids and blogging.

Not even one word?
That? Is beyond ridiculous!

Me, Hubby called and brought it to their attention. We're going to cancel the stupid paper anyway. It would be nice of them to acknowledge him this time. I save all the papers because I'm going to write a book about his career someday. It's all going to be in a book someday. Even this post! Thanks and hugs!!

You should call or write the local news papers and tell them about your son. He deserves it.

Depending on how important it is to you, go visit the sports editor personally and express your displeasure. They are always looking for something to fill the spaces on their pages. Maybe with some encouragement they will do an article.

I hate to tell you this, but there is a way to get paid doing housework--by being a housekeeper! Sadly, it would mean cleaning OTHER people's messes and who wants to do THAT!
(trust me, you don't. i was a housekeeper at a hotel for 3 yrs. not pretty)

I agree, get in contact with that paper and let them know the missed a great story!
Take care, stay out of trouble! ( :

I'm with Matty-- Call or email the Sports Editor an telling them how great it is that a local team which NICE young men (and women?) are participating and representing their community-- and that they are successful and deserve as much credit as local football and basketball teams do. I was in publishing and believe me the (nice) squeaky wheel gets oiled! Besides, it only fair-- It IS a community newspaper after all.

Go for it.

Most newspapers suck,.. They like to dwell on crap and not the good stuff!! Grrr!

When you figure out what job that is, Sign ME UP!!!

You had me going for a moment there... when I read the title of the blog, I thought you were making reference to the show "South Park" and son's orange-hoody for Halloween.

Yeah, most papers don't dwell too much on high-school athletes unless it's one of the major sports like basketball or football, and like, not at all if it's a home-schooled child.

Sometimes you have to hit the correct writer...assuming there is more than one writer for the SP Daily Bird Cage Liner. Either go to the sports editor, the golf beat writer or the high school sports beat writer. The other option is there may be a Sports Information Director for the local high school district who has contacts at the papers. When all of that is exhausted, just be grateful knowing your son is that good and recognition will come due to his efforts and talents on the course. Screw PR.

It is just the way it works! Unfair, but, not unusual!

If Tiger Woods kid ever golfs, wait to you see the coverage then!

I agree with the other people. Contact the sports writer and tell him about all your son's accomplishments. I bet he'll see it your way.

How sad. Where is the love?!?!

You could probably get paid for doing all those things, but you would have to do them naked and let someone watch.

When you figure it out, please bottle it and sell.

Och well, I guess someone else's child made the headlines then.

My mother always told me, "if you don't ask, you'll never know". It's actually very sound advice. Call the sports editor, ask him why. It could be policy of the paper not to write about high school golf OR it could be he didn't know about the game because your son's high school doesn't supply the paper the schedule.

About the making $$ bit, let me in on the secret when you find out. I could use the help.

Ahhhh..that is disappointing. Contact one of the writers! Good luck and I hope he gets more coverage.

Or else you just need to *dog* the reporter of local sports & hound him to death... Let that sucker know who is the boss.

I'm thrilled that your son is a golfer & wish him all the best!

The local sports news is the most relevant, don't they know that!
